Pilonidal sinus

Its primary cause is a hair follicle piercing the skin in this area. Pilonidal cysts (also known as pilonidal sinuses) predominantly affect young people—particularly those who sit for extended periods, such as drivers, programmers, designers, and office workers.

Causes of Pilonidal Cysts:

  • Movement of skin layers
  • Skin-on-skin friction
  • Friction between skin and clothing due to excess weight
  • Cycling
  • Wearing tight clothing
  • Sitting with poor posture
  • Sitting for long periods

Symptoms of Pilonidal Cysts:

  • Discomfort in the lower back (coccyx) area
  • Skin irritation accompanied by severe pain when sitting or moving
  • Intense itching in the lower back area

Prevention of Pilonidal Cysts:

Prevention involves maintaining personal hygiene, avoiding weight gain, and refraining from sitting for long periods. Additionally, removing hair from the area—specifically using hair removal creams—is recommended, especially for individuals who have previously suffered from the condition.
